Around the Cabbage Patch

TWISTED BREW, Annaka

If you want to support local businesses and love a great cup of coffee, come check out Twisted Brew! The owner, the lovely Jun, who speaks fluent English, created the store in May, 2021. Jun had studied abroad in America while in high school, which led to her passion of paying forward the kindness she experienced there. She began teaching English to children, but had a love of coffee and decided to open up a coffee shop in the little town of Annaka. Her host mother was a big influence on her, and helped her pick the name Twisted Brew for the store. Many of the delicious treats Jun sells are also recipes from her host mother, including the famous cinnamon rolls and carrot cakes. Twisted brew has a variety of coffee blends, deserts, toast sets, and most recently, açai bowls! Along with coffee, Jun sells various items from crocheted shawls to hand made soaps brought in by locals from around Annaka. Occasionally upstairs, she will hold small events or have a mini thrift store available for people to browse.

Q. What’s your favorite coffee?
Jun: Honduras drop coffee! (Also cold brew)

Q. What do you most recommend from your store?
Jun: The cinnamon rolls!

Truly, Twisted Brew is a wonderful place for relaxing, sipping on delicious coffee and a good way to get involved with a local Japanese shop. Come check it out on sunny days, and make sure to come early to get those cinnamon rolls as they sell out fast!

Address: 605-11 Itahana, Annaka, Gunma 379-0111
