The Shibukawa Belly Button Festival has been held since 1984 with "Japan's Bellybutton" as the theme, because Shibukawa City is located in the center of the Japanese islands.
The town of Ikaho, just outside Shibukawa, has deep historical ties to the Kingdom of Hawai'i, and each year they celebrate by inviting performers from Hawai'i to showcase their talent alongside local performers at the Ikaho Hawaiian Festival.
