SUMMARY:Takasaki Festival 2024
DESCRIPTION:Hey everyone! Takasaki will be hosting their yearly fireworks again this year. Feel free to join GAJET as we enjoy one of the best fireworks shows in Gunma! \nWhen\nThe festival will be August 24th from 7:30 to 8:20 PM. An area will be reserved by GAJET starting at 3 PM and will continue until the end of the event. Traffic to the area is expected to be quite intense both coming AND leaving\, so we suggest trying to account for that when making arrangements to arrive. \nWhere\nWe will meet in the east field of Wadabashi bridge. There will be a large field there where you can view the fireworks for free. We will set up an area there for GAJET members. \nHow to Get There\nParking may be difficult so we suggest walking. The location is a 20 minute walk from Takasaki Station. A GAJET member with a flag will be waiting at a nearby church (pictured below) to help bring people to the site around 6:45. There will be light sticks around our area to help people find the site. \nImportant Notes\nThere is no smoking in the area or the surrounding areas. Please make sure to take any trash with you when you leave the area. Cellphone and wifi reception will be poor in the area\, so please make sure to sort out any bookkeeping or setting up of google maps before heading towards the gathering area. If you get lost\, please make sure to check the map below and feel free to message a GAJET member to sort how to get to the festival (though availability may be limited)

DESCRIPTION:It’s time for our Tenjin Lodge ALT retreat again\, and this time it’s going to be spooky! \n\n\n\nJust like last year\, we will be holding an overnight retreat at Tenjin Lodge in Minakami\, run by the wonderful Kieren and Bo. We’ll have a BBQ dinner and the bar will be open for drinks\, or you can bring your own. There will be karaoke\, some photo props\, food\, drinks and games to play. \n\n\n\nSign up here! \n\n\n\nThe price breakdown is as follows: \n\n\n\n\nGAJET Fee: ¥500\n\n\n\nAccommodation: ¥6\,000\n\n\n\nBBQ Dinner: ¥2\,500 (vegetarian option available on prior request)\n\n\n\nBreakfast: ¥1\,500\n\n\n\nBYO Corkage: ¥1\,000\n\n\n\n\nThe only compulsory fees are the accommodation and GAJET fee\, if you don’t want to have the BBQ Dinner\, or you want to bring your own breakfast for the next morning\, that’s fine. If you want to bring your own drinks\, there’s a fee\, and the bar will be open for drinks at the venue. \n\n\n\nCostumes are highly encouraged! \n\n\n\nGames and activities for the evening include the evening BBQ\, an excursion to the nearby Doai Station (the deepest underground station in Japan with a creepy Silent Hill silhouette and a long climb down to the platform)\, karaoke\, board games (Cards Against Humanity etc)\, drinking games (ping pong balls provided)\, and a Halloween picture stand so you can show off your cool costumes. Some people also like to bring their Nintendo Switches\, so if you want to duke it out in Smash Bros. or race to the finish in Mario Kart\, bring yours along! \n\n\n\nThe world-famous Takaragawa Onsen is a short distance away\, so if you’re stuck for ideas after check-out\, a soak in the beautiful waters of Minakami is a great option.

SUMMARY:Coco Winery 2024
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, Coco Farm and Winery hosts its beloved Harvest Festival\, where guests can enjoy the winery’s carefully crafted wines while soaking in live music. GAJET is hosting a meetup at the event on the 17th so you can hang out with other ALTs and celebrate the season’s bounty as we roll into winter. Signups are open until November 14th and are done through their website. \nParking is limited and requires reservations\, so the best way to get there is to use public transport\, including shuttle busses from either JR Ashikaga Station (JR Ryomo Line) or Tobu Ashikaga-shi Station (Tobu Isesaki Line). The shuttle bus is ¥1\,500 for a round trip with the final return bus at 16:30. If you’d like to stretch your legs\, it’s about an hour’s walk from the station to the winery. \nThis year’s live entertainment includes Shuhei Takezawa (violoncellist)\, Saigenji (guitarist)\, Iwao Furusawa (violinist)\, Akira Sakata (saxophonist) and more. \nCoco Farm and Winery was founded in 1958 as a project by a local junior high school. The students and teachers created a space where people with intellectual disabilities could demonstrate and learn skills. In 1969 the project was expanded with the creation of Kokoromi Gakuen near the winery\, to support adults living with learning disabilities. \nSince then\, the winery has provided wine to toast the 2020 G8 meeting in Okinawa\, the Kyushu-Okinawa Summit\, a welcome dinner for British Prime Minister Theresa May\, and a luncheon at the Apostolic Nunciature. \nThey now operate five vineyards across Tochigi with additional partnerships across Japan\, proud to be creating wine made with 100% Japanese grapes.

The Fireworks Show is happening this Saturday night\, and we’re hosting a watch party for ✨FREE✨ \nSaturday night at 6:30\, we’ll be meeting at the Takasaki Catholic Church and walk over to the Wada Bridge Sports Square\, where we’ll enjoy our night until the fireworks start at 7:30! \nYou can bring your own drinks and snacks\, but make sure to clean up after yourself and bring your own trash home with you! DESCRIPTION:Signup Form Here! \nHello everyone! GAJET’s first hike of the year will be the Kannari Hiking Trail in Tomioka! \nThis beginner friendly round trip hike is approximately 4 miles long\, and features minimal elevation gain of less than 800ft. Following the hike we’ll also be paying a visit to the Gunma Museum of Natural History for those that would like to see some ancient fossils and dinosaur skeletons. \nOur meeting spot if the parking lot linked below. It’s very small so if carpooling is possible it is strongly encouraged. For those travelling by train the parking lot is less than a 1km walk from Kanohara station on the Joshin Dentetsu. Please arrive at the parking lot for 8:30am\, it’s going to be a hot one so we should start early to avoid the peak temperatures. \nEntry to the museum is 1\,000円 and there will be a special exhibition open. The museum is not conveniently located for access via public transport. I’ll have seats available in my car and it would be great if other drivers could offer lifts. Following on from the September hike in Tomioka\, we’re going to be reaching the summit of one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains. Takasaki’s very own Mount Haruna! \nOur route is shorter than 2 miles but features over 1\,200ft of elevation gain\, so it’s pretty steep. No technical ability is required\, but some amount of physical fitness is recommended. The trail will feature uneven terrain due to rocks and tree roots. \nAlternatively you might choose to take a leisurely (and flat) stroll around Lake Haruna\, and ride the ropeway to the summit of Haruna Fuji. This option may not have a GAJET member leading it. \nThere are several different parking lots around Lake Haruna. We’ll be meeting at the one linked above\, but if it’s full there are options nearby. Carpooling is still recommended where practical. \nAfter the hike we can pay a visit to Haruna Shrine\, which is only a short drive away\, and we’ll have the option to stop at this onsen on the shore of Lake Haruna.

The match starts at 13:05 but it is ideal to meet and enter together at 12:15 because parking can fill up quickly. SUMMARY:Coco Winery 2025
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, Coco Farm and Winery hosts the famous Harvest Festival\, where guests can enjoy the their carefully crafted wines while soaking in live music. GAJET is hosting a meetup at the event on the 15th so you can hang out with other ALTs and celebrate the season’s bounty as we roll into winter. Signups are open until November 13th and are done through their website. \nParking is limited and requires reservations\, so the best way to get there is to use public transport\, including shuttle busses from either JR Ashikaga Station (JR Ryomo Line) or Tobu Ashikaga-shi Station (Tobu Isesaki Line). The shuttle bus is ¥1\,500 for a round trip with the final return bus at 16:30. If you’d like to stretch your legs\, it’s about an hour’s walk from the station to the winery. \nThis year’s live entertainment is yet to be announced. \nGrab your tickets here!
