SUMMARY:Ikaho Festival 2023
DESCRIPTION:Ikaho Festival takes place from September 18-20 in the hot spring town just outside Shibukawa. \nFestivities start on September 18 with the Roka Festival\, a tea ceremony held in memory of Tokutomi Roka\, a Japanese writer and philosopher. Water is drawn from the hot spring source to give thanks for the amazing quality and abundance of the onsen water that makes the town so famous. \nThe next day\, September 19\, the 神輿 (mikoshi) portable shrine is paraded around the town’s main streets. They carry it all the way up the 365 stone steps and bring it back to the shrine at the top! Taru-mikoshi made from sake barrels accompany the main mikoshi\, and the narrow steps make for some thrilling viewing as the mikoshi carriers bump into each other on their journey up and down the stairs.

DESCRIPTION:It’s time for some more summer festival fireworks! 🎆🎇🎆🎇 \nThis year marks the 49th anniversary of the Takasaki Summer Festival\, an event which includes dashi floats\, portable shrines\, giant daruma and fireworks. \nTakasaki has one of the best fireworks shows in Gunma. Come join new and old JETs as we spend the evening gazing at 15\,000 fireworks! \nFireworks start at 7:30 and end at 8:20 but feel free to join before the show to chat and relax! \nBy Wadabashi bridge\, there is a massive soccer field where there is free viewing for the fireworks available. There may or may not be parking\, as many others will be coming as well\, so we suggest coming early by foot and train. Location is about a 20 minute walk from Takasaki Station. \nOur GAJET team will secure a spot for us\, so feel free to come earlier or closer to the time of the firework show. \nThere is no cost for this event\, but we do appreciate any donations to GAJET so we can continue to make awesome events for you! \nCAUTION: PLEASE TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU. Do not leave it behind for GAJET or other kind souls to clean. There aren’t any trashcans (what a surprise) but there is a local Lawson not too far from the field where you can throw your trash later! \nCan’t wait to see you there!

If the ladies are interested there is sign ups for carrying the Tengu mask here. \nThe festival is held in central Numata\, about a 15 minute walk from Numata Station on the JR Joetsu Line. By car\, it’s about 10 minutes from the Numata Interchange on the Kanetsu Expressway. DESCRIPTION:Want something spooky this summer? If you’re up for taking a trip to Ota\, 群ぐん馬まこどもの国くに公こう園えん (Gunma Kodomonokuni Park) is holding a haunted house from July 29th to August 27th. Advertised as fun for all ages! \nThere will be a “ghost maze” made from cardboard for the small kiddies and a traditional “Obake Yashiki” for the brave. There is also a “non-scary time” from 11:00-11:30 where the entire venue has its lights turned on for anyone who is scared of the dark. \nThe haunted house is open from 09:20am to 4:30pm\, and closed from 11:30am to 1:00pm.
