Made for each other like peanut butter and jelly...Submitted by Brigg Sabol on Tue, 2009/03/17 - 00:11.
This guy http://www.reuters.com/news/video/videoStory?videoId=59730 has just gotten one step closer to making his dream come true. Gambatte Kudasai! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090316/ap_on_re_as/as_japan_girl_robot I can see it now. A bunch of Sochu smelling, old Japanese engineers, nervously looking around at each other while building this thing trying to think of what excuses they can give the public (and their wives) for spending millions of dollars developing an alternative to using their hand. "Developers said the robot may be used in amusement parks or to perform simulations of human movement, as an exercise instructor, for instance." An exercise instructor? C'mon guys, you're engineers, is that best you could come up with? "its programming technology will be made public so other people can come up with fun moves for the robot, the scientists said." Fun moves...or, you mean...your favorite moves? "eight motors on its face to create expressions like anger and surprise." ...and pleasure. "Its walk was also not quite ready for the Paris Collection, partly because its knees are permanently bent." Her knees are permanently bent...you just went straight for the kill, didn't you guys? No messing around. "The big challenge in creating HRP-4C was making the parts small enough so it looks female, especially its thinner legs, said Shuuji Kajita, who leads the institute's humanoid research group." Yoshi: I'm having trouble connecting the servo motors that control her arm movement with her balance control mecha... "But this is just the first step," he said. Of course it is gentleman, you've got a lot of work to do. Godspeed! »

Oh the hilarity!
I always get a laugh out of holier-than-thou people who dump on the engineers and scientists that create these female robots under the assumption that they just want to make personal love slaves. It's too bad everyone doesn't live up to your standards eh?
Personally, and judge me if you please, if I needed to be wheeled around in a wheelchair, I'd prefer to have some robot that resembles a caring female instead of a gangly Asimo-like robot with a holier-than-thou-approved design.
Brilliant
Hmm. You seem pretty offended. Hyakuman, you can be honest with me, I won't judge you and I promise not to tell anyone. Are you a robot? Cause if you are, I owe you and any other robots who visit this site, a really big apology. I totally understand where you're coming from then. I'd get pissed too if someone was crackin' jokes about all the other girl robots I was friends with, sayin' their only good for sex. And of course I was making fun of your creators too! Oh man, that's like teasing a Christian about God. NOT FUNNY! I can see why you're so upset.
So, I'm confused. I was unaware that I revealed my standards in the post. Could you elaborate a bit please maybe explain to me what standards you believe I hold?
I can see it now. You're in the wheelchair, you've got your robot nurse with her non-bendable knees stuttering along like a game piece from an old electric football game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9sD1hmqBFs). And as you're wondering how much longer it will take to get to the next block, an old man in a motorized wheelchair with the joystick on the handle, flies by you quickly followed by an old lady on a Rascal http://www.rascalscooters.com/. And I won't have to judge you, I'll leave that to all the people staring at you who are wondering if you're having sex with your robot nurse.
Thanks for the links.
Nope, not offended. Just amused by your arrogance! :)
...
Hey guess what brainiac, IT'S A JOKE. Lighten up.
I hope this technology is
I hope this technology is put to good use, say as personal assistants for stubborn elderly people who refuse to go to a nursing home, and would rather live on their own. Or... If it is safe enough, as a nanny for children of busy parents who cannot bother to call and arrange a schedule with a real nanny/babysitter.
Or if male versions can be created, as escorts for women who feel uncomfortable walking alone at night through shady areas of cities/towns.
I'd also like to see the technology simplified, and perhaps miniaturized to about 3 or 4 feet tall, remove the human-ish aspects of it and make tin-pets or mini-friends for children. The tin pets could perhaps be made modifiable with parts that the children could buy from stores, and then children could walk around with these tin-pets/mini friend, run around and play physical activities instead of sitting at home playing video games and becoming obese. Maybe if they meet up with another tin-pet, they could agree to a competition of strength/speed/intelligence. And the winner could take one part from the loser's tin-pet for keeps.
Hmmmm... If only i was born yesterday, i'd be able to play with all the toys of tomorrow.
Nerd-go
WTF?!! Are you for real? This is by far the weirdest thing Ive ever heard! And I grew up in a cult.
AL T-1000
I'm more concerned of a time when someone says "hey let's load the New Horizon text book into her". Bang! Instant ALT.
To make the transition easier for the teachers they could program her to arrive late and leave early every day. Not speak a lick of Japanese and blow all her nenkyuu before christmas every year. She could also get hell drunk at the enkai and start a fight with the PE teacher. As a bonus the Kyoto Sensei could pinch her ass just like the old days.
I just hope Terminator 4 puts a little fear into the locals regarding these freaky-ass robots.
"Come with me if you want to learn!"
You know, our jobs really
You know, our jobs really could be done by a tape recorder, so I think building a robot to do it might just be a waste of the technology, lol.
