Canada Votes 2008: October 14th

For those Canadians who haven't already heard (or read), Canada will be voting for the next Federal Election on October 14th. It is possible for so-inclined Canadians to vote while abroad using a special mail-in ballet as long as the ballet is received by 6:00pm EST on the Tuesday before election day. This means that it would be best to register yourself ASAP so Elections Canada can send you the package with time to spare. For your reference, the eligibility requirements are:

  • are 18 years or older on polling day; and
  • have an ordinary residence in Canada, but are away from their electoral districts during the electoral period; or
  • have been living outside Canada for less than five consecutive years (or longer if they meet certain employment-based criteria for exemption from the five-year limit).
    •
If you meet these requirements and want to vote from overseas, please take a look at this FAQ for full details on how/where to register and mail your ballet. Happy Voting!
